I write things and then, instead of letting them rot in a notes app, I put them on a website I also built the markdown parser for. That's more or less the whole operation. Everything else on this page is just elaboration.
I think too much about cinema, I've been keeping receipts on my own taste via Letterboxd for years, and I will, with zero prompting, explain why a perfectly fine movie is actually a symptom of a larger problem. Apparently I also needed a diary section, a shrine page, and a gallery of unsorted images. Scope creep is a personality trait at this point.
A Few True Things
- Built Remarker, the markdown parser running this entire site, instead of just using an existing one.
- Reviewed a McDonald's Wet Bird with more philosophical rigor than most people apply to their relationships. Read the verdict →
- Was, in seventh grade, part of an unofficial and mostly facetious movement to determine the "true meaning" of Eiffel 65's Blue (Da Ba Dee). The full account →
- Has logged over 1,100 films on Letterboxd and somehow finds fewer of them worth getting excited about every year.
- Started keeping a public diary mainly to test whether consistency is a skill you can pick up this late.
What I Write About
Things I Will Never Shut Up About
- Operating systems with opinions. There's a whole corner of the shrine dedicated to this.
- The slow flattening of cinema into content. Also covered in the shrine, also an entire essay in the writings.
- Markdown parsers, specifically the one holding this sentence together right now.
- A wet bird from a McDonald's bag, who has since been promoted to oracle.
Behind the scenes: ~2,500 lines of hand-written HTML, CSS, and vanilla JS across every page on this site. No frameworks, no build step, no tracking. Markdown rendered by Remarker, my own parser. The whole thing runs on hosting infrastructure I built myself, serving plain files over HTTP like it's 2003 — on purpose.
